best of the 2012 sag awards.

this is another awards show where people took risks that really paid off. everyone's look was so different this time around that it was hard to narrow it down to one favorite looks, so here are my top picks.

zoe saldana in givenchy haute couture.
i wasn't sure how i felt at first, but when i saw her moving in this, it was just beautiful. the mix of white and silver is stunning.

 michelle williams in valentino.
valentino red was magic on michelle. the cool lace cutouts and draping at the waist make it a unique look.

emma stone in alexander mcqueen.
this dress is so much fun. the shaping at the hips make this anything but a little black dress and the tea length is just so young and fresh.

sarah hyland in temperley london.
this vintage cut in an almost sheer fabric make this just the right amount sexy and pretty.

rose byrne in elie saab.
two words: sparkly jumpsuit!
whoever said you had to wear a dress.

tilda swinton in lanvin.
this woman can wear anything. i love this all white goddess look.

ashlee simpson in jenny packham.
we haven't seen much of her lately but she looks amazing. the dress is stunning and her hair & makeup is very glamourous.

emilia clarke in chanel couture.
here is another risk taker who succeeds. the strong shoulder, the feathers and the black and white make modern glamour.

emily blunt in oscar de la renta.
john krasinski in prada.
cute couple. great green color. best dressed man.

madewell spring 2012 lookbook.

these are just a few of my favorite looks from madewell's spring 2012 collection. it may be a bit of an obsession, but once you take one look at the offerings of madewell, you just can't get enough. i'm loving the bright color blocking mixed with equally as bright floral prints and of course, the polka dots. but my favorite standout pieces are those overalls and the black and white thin striped pants. no worries, we can continue on with our chambray shirts and colored denim. get ready to go bright and go bold.

friday find: birchbox.

first off, this is my first video i have ever made so it is a little silly and a lot amateur. but either way this friday find is super cool. i have been subscribing to birchbox since last may and love getting a pretty pink box in the mail every month! it's filled with cool beauty products & they even have a blog full of how-to's for those of you like me who can't do hair or makeup to save your life. now sit back, relax, and have yourself a good laugh watching my video!

if you haven't checked out birchbox yet, you should.
and maybe sign up for your very own subscription too!

it's my party..

and i'll get crazy if i want to.

so i have been 27 for almost two weeks now and as we can see not much has changed. i am still posting weeks after things actually happen and i am still acting like a kid.
and, like the past 5 or so years, i had to work on my birthday. so i had to have a fun birthday outfit to show off at work, but not to be confused with the one i was wearing out to celebrate. being that i am still obsessed with collars and buttoned up shirts, i thought this sheer, dotted one would be perfect. i love that it is layered over a black tank and black jeans, making the illusion that maybe, just maybe, i am wearing a jumpsuit underneath (my kind of birthday suit).

birthday night.

dress - f21
blazer - h&m
necklace - vintage

toggle cardigan - urban outfitters

shoes - sebago

i am not high maintenance. i just have a wonderful friend, rachel, who is a hair stylist who knows how much i love having my hair done (since i am lacking skills in this department). she gifted me birthday night hair & make-up, vintage finger waves.. my favorite. as for my birthday night outfit, it did not turn out as i had planned. for christmas, i got this beautiful vintage, soft pink colored headpiece. i wanted to wear it on my birthday, so i hunted for a dress that would match it. that is why i went with this green, inexpensive one from f21. when the night seemed to go in a bit more casual direction, i opted not to wear the headpiece and turned my look a bit edgier. the dress is floor length, so i shortened the front by tying it in a knot & showed off my moto boots, then topped it off with a leather blazer. my photographer was off duty, so sorry for the lack of a photo. the best part was my hair anyway.
all in all, it was a lovely birthday and i look forward to making 27 a wonderfully fun year.

jason wu for target.

this by far one of the cutest, sweetest ad campaigns i've seen in a long time. it is not only great to have access to such a talented designer (in just a little over a week!), but to be able to feel like you are part of this other world. i want to live these photographs. be in this parisian fairy tale. the pieces are pretty and feminine but without feeling too girly. it is the perfect mix of being polished with a touch of boyish playfulness.

take a look at what i am dying to have here and let me know what pieces we are going to be fighting for come february 5th!

now check out the real star of this campaign in target's commercial:

well to do, you: dress to impress.

it is now the end of january and if you do not know about the awesome month long project going on over at well to do, you, you are surely missing out. suz stephenson is wearing the same, yes, the exact same dress, everyday this month in support of dress for success. along with inspiring us to utilize our closet and support a wonderful organization, there are guest posts from really great bloggers giving tips on closets, style, prolonging the life of your wardrobe, and seasonless dressing.

as you may know about me, i like to get the most out of my clothes, spend little, and save a lot. i wanted to share a few key pieces you must have in your wardrobe to get wear out of all year long. there was no better place and time to share this than over at well to do, you. check out my guest post and more importantly, take a look at all of suz's outfits this month!

friday find.

this is a website full of tights and socks. who doesn't need tights and socks? especially when they come in 50+ fabulous colors and from prices starting at $3.50! this is my kind of shopping. every year i wait till the send of the season to stock up on tights when they go on sale, but now that i have found we love colors, i can get them now, when i need them! as for socks, i am all about adding a pop of color to any outfit. this is an easy and fun way to add crazy color without having to take too much of a risk.

go forth and add color!
(for little green.)
(haha.)

necklace - xmas gift from mom
bracelet - vintage

you know those days when you end up sitting on your bedroom floor staring at your closet (and/or rolling racks or piles of clothes on the floor) waiting for inspiration to magically appear. sometimes it works and other times you end up late for work. today, it was the former. i am thinking i owe some credit to the obscene amount of gossip girl i have been watching and that it is affecting my subconscious. it may also be my current obsession with collars and the buttoned-all-the-way-up look. this just added to the grown up school girl look i had going. the sweater made for an interesting add on. a different version of the blazer or cardigan routine. makes me think a little bit of serena in high school and how she always made that school uniform look so cool and sometimes, pretty damn sexy.
regardless of where the inspiration come from on this particular morning, it is obvious that collars paired closely with an interesting necklace is my go-to of the moment.

best of the 2012 golden globes.

as usual, i am a day late and a dollar short. or as i like to say, i am really busy. you have already seen everyone else's top picks from this years golden globes and i could have easily skipped over this post, but there were far too many well dressed women on this year' red carpet. the golden globes is one of the more relaxed, fun awards shows and these women really took that into account when picking their dresses this year. taking risks really paid off and kept the red carpet interesting.
we saw the usual mermaid style dresses, which to me, is starting to get old. we saw lots of greens, emerald blues, nude & light pinks, and yellow. there was the return of the t-shirt dress, in both long and short sleeves (one of my favorite looks), lots of sequins, interesting cut outs, and something new: evening headbands.
now without further ado, here are my picks:

the top five
#5

michelle williams in jason wu

this dress is one of the most wearable looks on the carpet. it is the perfect michelle look. it wasn't the most outrageous choice, but she looked beautiful and it was my first look at the runway headband. here's to hoping there is something similar in the jason wu for target collection.

#4

chalize theron in dior

when i first saw her, i wasn't sure. i thought the bow was a bit 80s. considering we are into the 70s and 90s right now, the 80s wouldn't be right. but as i saw the dress move and in this particular picture, i was sold. she is a dior girl. it is a beautiful, goddess meets princess look. it is so sexy without being sexy, with the headband adding a bit of a demure feel.

 #3

claire danes in j. mendel

claire sure knows how to dress her body shape. from her dress at the globes last year to the one this year, she knows how to be sexy without showing legs or cleavage. this dress has interesting details that give this dress the right amount of edge. i hope she continues to kill the red carpet this season.

#2

salma hayek in gucci

this is a modern version of a film noir look mixed with a little art deco. it is so glamourous. the dress is unique and was hard to look away from, shining, shimmering, and changing in the light.

#1

emma stone in lanvin

this girl is killing it time and time again. i could not stop thinking about this look for days after i saw her on the red carpet. she is stunning. the dress is so different. it so fun, yet edgy. she is young and is having so much fun with fashion. i have heard mice reviews on the belt, but i love it. an oversized eagle on the red carpet, hell yeah.
