these looks go along with the very present feminine look we saw all over the runways. being found mostly in shades of white, they are prefect for spring. but for a little bit more excitement look for items in bold colors. this trend still works if you are not the girly-girl type. just pair them with pieces with more structure. chose a bold shoe with a thick heel or wedge. pair it with leather or denim for a bit of an edge. whatever way (or ways) you chose to wear it, this trend is easy to wear for everyone.

this is something that is pretty classic and is usually around. this time, though, the dots are not just polka dots, but may come in different sizes and even different shapes. as you can see from the runway looks, they are made up of different circular shapes in fun colors and textures. add a little or add a lot. fun, classic, and plays well with stripes.

so there is nothing new about the shirt, but this season it is all about being buttoned all the way up. i, for one, is all for this trend. i love this look. it is easy to wear. easy to dress up or dress down. and it works for all shapes and sizes. take a sweet looking shirt, buttoned up, and wear with an edgy bottom like a leather skirt. or take a sheer sleeveless version, add a bra top, and a full mid length skirt for a ladylike look with just a hint of naughty. and, as you can see, this trend works well with our next one, color blocking.

color blocking is also an easy trend. it is also super fun. you can add a few pops of color with your accessories or tights or you can wear a head-to-toe outfit of different colors. you can try it out by wearing a dress that is already multicolored to see how it feels. if you like it, you can move on two pair a simple top in a bright color with your favorite colored denim. if you really want to up the ante, try an outfit with three or more different colors. you can start out by using different shades of similar colors. to get more advanced, try picking opposite colors on the color wheel!

well to do, you closet challenge: week one.

as i mentioned last month, suz from well to do, you started the dress to impress project to support dress for success. she didn't want the project to end at the end of january, so she asked bloggers to help her carry it on. each week local fashionistas will be wearing the same article of clothing three times that week. yes, i said three times. can you believe you will be seeing so many fashionable woman wearing the same item in the same week more than once!? believe it.

i thought long and hard about which item i wanted to start with. i wanted it to be a bit of a challenge. you know, start off with a bang. so here is what i chose:

a dress straight from the 80s (maybe early 90s) with a cool peplum detail.

the point of this project is to show how we can get the most out of our wardrobes, save money, and donate the things we no longer need to great places like dress for success. not only am i going to get three very different looks out of this dress, draw attention to dress for success, but show that spending very little can go along way. i just happened to have gotten this dress at dress for success' fall clothing sale for only $5!

without further ado, here is a hint of the ways i am going to wear this dress over the next week:

 as a dress:

as a shirt:

 as a skirt:

inspired? want to get involved yourself? or just want to see what other people are wearing?
go to well to do, you and get started!
