fair fashion: common ground.

the fair grounds were full of boots: bean boots, wellies, leather boots, and everything in between. tucked in to jeans and leggings, worn with shorts and skirts. fair ready and weekend cocktail ready.

flannel was another hot item every where. it was worn to keep warm and as work wear, but also it a more fashionable way.

backpacks and tote bags were also another big thing. leather, canvas, or traditional ll bean, they were ready to be filled with all those fair purchases.

and last but not least (and still dying to diy), floral headbands. these ones were made to order on the fairgrounds out of sweet anni and fresh flowers. they were beautiful and fragrant and really pulled the fair look together.

on common ground.

fall has certainly begun. as tradition has it, every year at the end of september, we head off to the common ground fair in unity, maine. my boyfriend, my sister, and her boyfriend and i wake up super early and drive a little over an hour north of portland to celebrate fall, local farmers, local businesses, and the maine organic farmers and gardeners association (mofga). this year we decided to do things a little different and actually look at the schedule, split up, and check out lectures and demonstrations. we still walked the fair and ate yummy food, but we got more out of it than years past. i spent most of the morning in the wellness tent learning about herbs and essential oils to fight stress and fatigue and get ready for the winter. it was very interesting and i really did learn a lot. it makes me want to learn a lot more about it!

now that we are living in the city, we needed to get the most out of our 'fall' weekend in maine. terry and i carried out more of our fall traditions and went apple picking with his sister and husband, complete with fresh made donuts, cider, and coffee, followed by lunch at cole farms.

i love maine this time of year. it was great to spend a few beautiful days enjoying the outdoors..
