clean.

today was day one of my new challenge. i am starting the clean program. it is a cleanse. this is the first time i have ever done anything like this. i know it is going to be hard, but i am actually kind of excited. since my eating hasn't been that great lately, i have to do a prep week before the actual cleanse called elimination week. it is exactly what it sounds like. i am starting to eliminate the things from my diet that i wont be allowed to have on the cleanse, which is basically everything.

so day one started off on the wrong foot. i ate cereal, which i am sure has sugar in it for breakfast. neither cereal or sugar are allowed. the one positive things about breakfast was that i didn't have coffee. i had a nice glass of green tea instead. lunch didn't go very well either. instead of eating my hummus with cucumbers, i ate it with tortilla chips, which are definitely not allowed. after lunch, i did make it to the grocery store. i like to think i only made the food choices i did earlier in the day because i wasn't prepared with the correct foods. grocery shopping was kind of stressful. i was trying to make sure i was only buying things on the yes list and at the same time i was buying things for a full meal. i bought lots of fruits and veggies, chicken and fish. i like to think by not buying things that come in packages, i have already saved money, but i'm not really sure yet. dinner was easier since i had food to cook with. terry made haddock cooked in parchment paper with lemon and broccoli. we were in a major rush to have dinner since we were both headed out to activities, so we didn't have any time to cook something like rice to go with it. either way, it tasted very good.

i ate dinner at 5:45. since then i have had a cup of mint tea at local sprouts, a cup of hot water and lemon when i got home, and three twizzlers that were on the counter. i cracked under pressure. they were the last three in the pack and they made a very good point that if i ate them now, they would be gone and when i start tomorrow, there will be no sweet treats in the house to haunt me. i think going forward this week will be easier. i have the right foods to eat and i know i can make it from 6pm to morning without eating anything (twizzlers were a one time thing). i have to keep in mind that this isn't even the hard week. i mean, i still get to eat three solid meals. the hardest part is going to be hearing people talk about food because it only makes me want more!

today was a good day. i woke up early and got in some much needed reading and then i went to put the final looks together for a photoshoot i am styling on thursday. this is something i love doing and am so passionate about that i am very happy to give up part of a saturday to do it. not to mention i love the girl i am styling. her name is sara hallie richardson and she is a wonderful singer. if you don't know who she is, you must check her out. after that i met terry for lunch at market street eats and then i headed by myself to the portland museum of art to see bill cunningham new york. tomorrow is the last day it is playing here and if you have not seen it, i recommend you find time to. i was a wonderfully inspiring and heart wrenching film. he is a beautiful man with a true talent and loves his work so much. it is the first time in a very long time that i have left the theater feeling so moved.

as for my outfit, it was all about layers. it is cold out. the sun was shining and it looked nice, but boy, was it deceiving. i didn't want to wear a winter jacket, so i just kept adding. this is what i would call my factory worker look. it was the first time i have given denim-on-denim a shot. i liked it. the outfit was a little boyish so i had to add the shoes to give a little bit of girl. you cant really see it, but i am wearing one of my favorite pieces of clothing. it is my t-shirt that was my dad's from when he played on a softball team. it is so worn that you can see through it in some spots and you can barely read the writing on it, but it is so soft. and with j. crew still on my mind, i cant help but give them a little credit for my inspiration.

what i spent:
sweater - $12 from picnic (the one in the park) i only paid $6 since terry and i are sharing it
shirt - $3
t-shirt - free
jeans - $54
shoes - $8
ring - $3
bag - gift from terry

this week's outfit have been a stretch. i have worn these pants twice this week. they are easy to put on and go with everything. i wasn't very inspired this week and didn't get as much excitement as i normally do about getting dressed. i am going to blame this on the constant change in weather and my need for spring to be here for more than one day a week. even though it has been hard for me, i do like what i am wearing. i love how bold purple and black look together. by pairing it with neutrals, i think it gives it a cool contrast.

what i spent:
tank - $12
blazer - $22
jeans - $54
shoes - $9.99
belt - $7.99 (but i used a store credit so i paid nothing)
bracelet - $2.99 (just wait for things to go on sale and shop on a day where they are giving extra discounts!)

the sun was shining and it was the first real spring day. it made me yearn for summer and with that comes even more stripes. they say summer just as much the beach. today's look was more 40s nautical. it has a fun, innocent look, while giving just a bit of sexiness. it was feminine, yet a little masculine at the same time.

what i spent:
jacket - $30
scarf - $12
shirt - $8
skirt - $4.99
belt - $2.99
shoes - $42

necklace - i made it!

dark and sleek is the look i was going for today. unfortunately, you can't tell in the photo, but the shirt is purple. it was once a dress owned by a friend, who will remain nameless, who put it in the washer and dryer and it shrunk into the size of a shirt fit for me!
as for the necklace, it is my version of a hardware store diy from stylecaster.com. it is made from springs and brackets found at a hardware store. it makes a bold statement and looks pretty cool against a dark background.
this diy stuff is starting to get a little addictive. if you want to try it yourself, check out how to make this necklace here!

april showers means you better wear pretty flowers. this shirt is a little hippie, but tucked into a black skirt it makes it a little more dressed up. the colors are pretty and fun. their are lots of cool details on this shirt and i love the big sleeves.
