when there's goodwill, there's a way. 231.

so this summer i was in charge of finding 70's clothes for a first friday event at work and with very little money. my first thought was to head to goodwill. it was quick and painless to find plenty of things for the event. this hot pink shirt was one of them. i thought it would be perfect tucked into a pair of highwaisted wide leg jeans. i didn't end up using it for the show, but i am happy i kept it for myself. it was actually in a box of fabric in my craft room/office until last thursday when i was inspired by a woman from conde nast travel was on the today show. she was wearing an outfit very similar to the one i wore last thursday. that green shirt was also bought for the same thing at goodwill and was also taken out of the same box of fabric.

the skirt is also from goodwill and it was only $4.99. places like goodwill are great for finding interesting pieces that may be missing from your wardrobe for very low prices. it is also sustainable and gives back to people in need. win win for all.

if there is ever a time to go bright and bold, it is in the dead of winter. it felt great to pair bright pink with multi colored tweed that was full of pink. i love pink and black together. it reminds me of a barbie bathing suit i once had. its a major color combo. the skirt is a classic, ladylike style with a longer hemline. pair it with a button down and you have the standard work look. for me, this doesn't work. so what better than a leather blazer to add a little edge to a tweed skirt.

wednesday was a tough day. it was a snow storm, i flew back in from new york very early that morning, and i did not feel well. i pretty much put on what i could find when i pulled myself out for bed. as for thursday, i felt much better as you can see by how much better i looked. i love the colors in this outfit and easy it was to look classic and dressed up.

friday. my birthday!

jumpsuit madewell, blazer f21, shoes payless.
this very special occasion needed a very special outfit. i get this jumpsuit for christmas from mom my and have been waiting for the perfect moment to wear it since. i was going to wear it when i was in new york, but that did work out and i am actually glad it didn't. this was a pretty low key birthday. terry and i met some friends for a drink and then the two of us had dinner at fore street. it was my first time there and i was very pleased with it. then it was home to bed, since i had to work early in the morning.

saturday.

shirt thakoon for target, sweater loft, jeans jbrand, shoes urban outfitters.

day two of my birthday celebration. after a very good day of work, i went to dinner at frog & turtle with my parents, terry, my sister and her boyfriend. it was also my first time here and it was also very good. i did a chocolate cake shot with our waiter. it tasted exactly like chocolate cake, but looked exactly like lemonade. we were going to go out for a few drinks, but after opening my birthday gifts from my family and having eaten so much, none of us wanted to move off the coach. still a great day.

sunday.

shirt goodwill, henley ruehl, pants gap, shoes urban outfitters.
this was the last day of my birthday weekend. terry and i slept in and then had a really good brunch at local 188. i did some laundry at my parents house and then spent the day with my mom and sister. the day ended with homemade pizza and wings at terry's sisters. the only bummer was that the pats lost, but i had the golden globes to cheer me up.

i packed some great outfits for my very first business trip to new york city, but as you can see what i wore was not the same great outfits i took the time to put together before i left. after one day, i realized that i was not going to be able to wear heels and all of my outfits i planned on wearing needed heels. my boots and one pair of heels were the only shoes i brought. i was very proud of myself for packing so little, i fit it all in one carry-on. my boss was not checking bags, so there was no way i was. this was the first time i have ever traveled with only two pairs of shoes. i had packed two full (and awesome) outfits i put together the night before and then a few extra pieces just in case. and luckily, i had enough to pull these looks together.
i was in new york for the enk trade shows. this was my first time at the shows doing buying for the boutique and figured i would want to look as good as possible. after one day, i was certain there was no glamour involved in walking around for 8 hours carrying bags of paper that got heavier as the day went on. comfort and warmth was key for walking around the shows and through the city. my trip was great and the pieces we selected for spring are even better!
