this was an important night for the city of portland. it was the portland phoenix best of awards held at port city. the night called for a special outfit. something fun, but not too dressed up, because i was nominated for my first phoenix award for best blog!

i thought a little mix of denim and fringe was a good mix of high and low for this event. added just a little color with my shoes and a little sparkle with my vintage beaded bag that i am so super obsessed with. it was an outfit that i felt cool, confident, and ready to party in.

i did not win. i did not even expect to. i went to have fun, have cupcakes, whoopie pies, and a few drinks. it was just a crazy honor to be nominated (thank you to those who nominated and voted for me!) not only was it an honor to be nominated, it was an honor to be in the company that i was. fore front fashion and broke207 are both awesome blogs, but also part of the SWAPmaine team with me!!

a BIG congrats to fore front fashion for their best blog win, two years in a row!
you go, girl!!

tangerine is pantone's 2012 color of the year. it plays very well with navy blue, fuchsia, and gold.
but don't worry, if orange ain't your thing, there are plenty of other hot colors this seasons: mint, coral pink, kelly green, citron yellow.

where has it been. where will it go.

wearing:
sweater  - ny&co
skirt - salvation army $2.99 special
boots - vintage
cuff - flea market find
bracelet - my great grandmother's
hair pin - gift from my sister

i was going to write something here about how to wear crop tops so they look good (answer: wearing them with something high waisted), but as i started to write out where i got the item in this outfit, something different came to mind.

looking at this list, i got a really cool feeling, maybe a little nostalgic. my wardrobe is made up of so many parts and they all come from different places. yes, there are those from places like forever 21 that you had to have and will only wear once, but then there are so many things with so much meaning and stories behind them.

i put a lot of thought into most of the things i buy. i love finding really great one-of-a-kind pieces at vintage and flea markets, but also at goodwill or salvation army. i like to think about where they have been and who may have worn them.

most of the things i have from my great grandmother are nothing more than costume jewelry, but it is still of high value to me. plus, i can wear them all the time and not worry about what may happen to it.
and as for the boots, these were a magical find. i've had them for almost 10 years, but they have been around for about 40 years. i've had to repair them a few times, but they just seem to get even better looking.

is your closet filled with stories? do you ever think about the secrets they may hold? or is there something your could never part with or keep just for the memories?

flea-for-all!

holy awesomeness! it is here. this is just what we needed. it is like real life etsy shops in a beautiful, beautiful space.

(i need this mint and pink polka dot dress. in unrelated news, i like presents!)

last weekend was the much anticipated opening weekend of portland's flea-for-all. it is such a great idea. the space is a mix of vintage shops and your usual flea market booths alongside local designers and artists.

the list of venders is amazing and will be changing & growing, so going back every week will be worth it! this will be hard for me since i am not suppose to buy new clothes and i know how this works.. if you like and don't buy, when you decided to buy it, it will be gone!

i didn't leave empty handed either.. terry treated me to this super awesome belt from proper vintage!

weekend number two starts tomorrow!

GO!
